Massachusetts is home to several Champion Trees (the largest known specimens for a species). Among others, the state is home to the swamp white oak (Quercus bicolor) champion that stands 65 feet tall, and dates back to 1880; as well as a pin oak (Quercus palustris) champion that was planted at the turn of the century and boasts a 101-inch circumference.
